FIVE MARKS OF CULTURAL DECLINE
Back in the 1970s, Francis Schaeffer penned an important work titled, How Should We Then Live? I have recently revisited Schaeffer's work, and at times find him prophetic. According to Schaeffer, Western Civilization shares the following traits with the Roman Empire during its decline: -a love of affluence
-a growing gulf between the rich and the poor
-an obsession with sex
-freakishness in the arts
-an increased desire to live off the state
Could it be that the greatest threat to Western Civilization comes not from without, but from within? And might the same thing be said of the church?
